WHY I CHOSE TO BECOME AN EDUCATOR
Education has always been an important factor in my life. As a child, each time I was asked what I wanted to do when I grew up, I would say a teacher. In my eyes, educators are held to a high standard and are the foundation for the future. My desire to be a teacher began in elementary school when I had a fantastic teacher. This teacher went above and beyond with every lesson. She always gave each student a voice and made them feel special. Over time I have come in contact with many teachers, good and bad. I have seen the ways they encouraged students to achieve more, and how they made a difference in so many lives. It always reminds me of that teacher who I aspire to be like.
Teaching has become my mission more than my occupation. It has given me a worthy cause to dedicate my time to. I chose to be a teacher so I could make a positive impact on students. So I could hear laughter and joy fill my classroom, because of exciting news. So I could be a comfort for those students in sorrow when bad times come. I chose to be a teacher so I could light the way for the next generation, and share the love of learning with every child.
I want to give my students love and support through each stage of their life. I desire to be my student's advocate, friend, and teacher. I hope to represent a positive attitude and a grateful spirit for my students to model after. Education is a rewarding career that I know I am called for. Each day may be different, but we are all learning as we go.
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk once said, "A good teacher is like a candle it consumes itself to light the way for others."
